This was a repeat trip from earlier in the month. This group had 2 kids with them. They wanted to fish somewhere protected from the wind and waves so the kids would be comfortable. They requested some fresh gray snappers to take home for dinner. Once dinner was fulfilled they wanted to hang at a sandbar so we made our way over to Snipes Key.

A guys trip before the wedding! Today we got the chance to take out the groom and some of his wedding party. The kids were the ones who crushed it though! They wanted to keep a couple snapper for dinner and then wanted to tug on some big fish. We caught dinner and then they had fun pulling on the sharks. We managed too get several large lemon sharks boat side.

Every once in a while we get the opportunity to take some Key West locals out for a fishing trip. This trip consisted of a a group of 5 who wanted to catch some dinner and then chill at one of our local sandbars. The weather was great so we made our way out to the edge of the reef. We located some good current on the edge and got to work! They managed to catch a mess of yellowtail snappers. We then switched gears and picked up some SOLID mangrove/gray snappers which were hunkered down on the bottom. A great day was had by all.

Todays trip consisted of a grandfather who wanted to get his grandson on some gray/ mangrove snappers. We spent the day in the backcountry of the Lower Florida Keys. We focused our attention on the area of Jewfish Basin and the Mud Keys. They succeeded in catching their dinner and had a great time. The inshore backcountry fishing has been on fire!

Curt and his buddy Evan were in town visiting from Pennsylvania and wanted to get out and bend the rod. We were still battling this unusual summertime wind pattern. It has been blowing a consistent 20mph plus for almost 2 weeks. However, we again set out into the backcountry to find a spot to hide. The day was a success with none stop action from the snappers and they even got to pull on some sharks!

The wind has been a real killer over the past two weeks. We have spent a lot of time hiding from it in the backcountry. But this does not mean that the fishing stops, quite the opposite actually. We had a family from North Carolina with us and their son, Forrest wanted to catch some fish! We had plenty of mangrove snappers to go around, and sharks galore. Forrest even managed to catch a solid backcountry Mutton Snapper which they took home for dinner!

Todays trip consisted of a family of 5 who wanted to introduce their kids to fishing. The goal was to keep the rods bent and then hit the sandbar for them to relax. We found a spot in the backcountry with none stop action. We got into the mangrove snappers, sharks and barracudas. The kids loved it and were eventually catching the fish all by themselves. We then hit one of the local sandbars for them to jump in.

As the Tarpon migration continues, sod do the Tarpon trips. This time I had the pleasure of guiding Bill, Kimberly and Ryan on a Tarpon trip. We started the day with a quick success when Ryan landed his Tarpon. We then had to dodge some weather and they wanted to pull on some other fish. We hit some nearby reefs were we caught a multitude of groupers, snappers, barracuda and countless fish were lost. Ryan also managed to snag a nice Mutton Snapper to enjoy for dinner.

The official opening for grouper season for the state waters. The weather kicked up a little so we decided to stay close and just catch some dinner. Closed out the day with this solid red grouper for some inshore grouper fishing in Key West, FL aboard FloAlong Charters.

The tarpon fishing has been insane for the migration of the Silver King through Key West harbor. An early start helps, but fishing the correct tides is the trick. Today I had the day off and took my dad so he could bend the rod. He had several hits but unfortunately he was unable to come tight on one. One bonus of this sort of fishing is there are TONS of other fish making their way through the harbor. We caught a bunch of nice snappers to include this stud Mutton Snapper! Not a bad day in Key West, FL on board the FloAlong.

At FloAlong Charters we do more than just fishing. This time I was contacted by a new client (Leslie and Mark) whom is visiting the Lower Florida Keys for a month and they brought their own boat with them. Once they arrived they realized navigating this area can be a real challenge. They reached out to me and asked for some pointers. I took the day and went aboard their vessel. I showed them how to navigate around the backcountry of the Lower Keys. We made our way from Big Coppitt Key over to Marvin Key and down through Key West Harbor. We all had a great day and they are now out exploring the area responsibly on their own. They even got some fresh FloAlong Charters gear!

Todays trip consisted of Andrew, Cassandra and Kyle whom are down visiting Key West from north Florida. We started the morning chasing Tarpon in Key West Harbor. Again, while waiting for the Tarpon bite we picked up two solid Muttons for them to take home for dinner! We had a nice weather window and decided to take the chance and head west from there. We picked our way through some spots down near Boca Grande Key and the Marquesas. Each spot was inundated with grouper, which unfortunately are still closed. Smiles all around in Key West, FL today aboard FloAlong Charters.

The weather has been brutal down here in Key West. The wind seems to never stop, it has been blowing 20kts for what feels like weeks! Fortunately, there is always somewhere to hide from the wind and catch quality fish. Today we managed to catch a limit of some quality Mangrove Snapper and Mutton Snapper (as usual I forgot to take pictures of the fish). We also found some drag screamers which managed to drag us around the harbor for a while. A great day in Key West, FL aboard FloAlong Charters.

Todays trip consisted of Casey and his friend Ray. They were down visiting Key West to celebrate their graduation from law school. The weather was unfortunately down right miserable. The wind, the rain and even some lightning which forced us off the water for a little. We hit the harbor to chase the Tarpon in the morning and then they decided to catch a few fish to take home for a fresh dinner. The weather put a damper on us, but we managed to fish through and around the storms. Just another day in Key West, FL aboard FloAlong Charters.

Today was one of those days that I will not soon forget. I had the day off and my daughter said she wanted to go fishing. She loves the sport and even had me build her a rod several months ago. She picked out all the colors and we have been putting it to good use. Today we headed down towards “the lakes” area and found a nice finger channel to setup shop. She was picking her own livebaits out of the well and helping me put them on the hook. As she was freelining out the bait the reel began to scream and she was yelling for help. We managed to close the bail in time and slowly work this solid Mutton to the boat with a little bit of help from dad. She caught some solid Mangrove Snappers, Yellowjacks and we even jumped a Tarpon while waiting for the chum to start flowing. An awesome day in Key West, FL aboard FloAlong Charters.
